Love Supreme Soul Stir for Tyree Nichols & Half Moon Bay Victims

I find myself looking to Love Supreme by John Coltrane or the Photograph soundtrack for a way to guide my heart as I write this message to the BBCS community.

Unpacking the gristly details of the unnecessary murders of seven Asian Americans at Half Moon Bay & Monterey Park as well as Tyree Nichols has me strolling between emotions of numbness, sadness, and rage. I honestly struggle to find any words that may provide salve to what feels like a wound that won't heal. Grief is multi-faceted and multi-colored and is demonstrated in layers. One should never get accustomed to senseless deaths and murders as the norm.

Our scholars will continue to look to us for tools to navigate the complex and sometimes maddening times we are in. Too many media vehicles celebrate the brutality within our humanity–almost like it's a badge of honor. It’s almost as if being a human being with good intentions is outside the norm. I still believe that we are the X-Factor and the way we keep showing up matters! We spend so much time with our 335 that it’s got to make the indelible impact that we hope will lead them to become incredible gems to the world we live in.

Here are some resources I offer in hopes that they may complement your individual or collective efforts:
